A reef swim is Roatan’s equivalent of going for a walk through the neighborhood. It’s why people keep their damp swimsuits on all day. But just as I began to think that lazing over the reef and drying off on a hammock was the dream that’s turned so many travelers into retired expats, one such person challenged my thinking. “Yeah, we can do that here,” he said, showing me miles of empty beach. “But we don’t retire to veg out and do nothing. Boredom is the enemy. You’ll see what I mean.”
