New Zealand Puts "The Hobbit" on Currency

New Zealand is home to Middle-earth once again, with the release of the first of three films based on 'The Hobbit' on December 14th. To mark this moment in cinematic history, New Zealand Post is issuing official stamps as well as the only official legal tender commemorative coins from Middle-earth.

Tourism New Zealand is working to rebrand the country as "100% Middle Earth." The Capital city of Wellington will be officially renamed "The Middle of Middle Earth" for three weeks falling the premiere of the new movie. The coins are expected to be released on November 1st, and are expected to sell at up to $10,000 over their face value.
