Tobago is an authentic travel experience apart from the usual Caribbean destinations. ISLANDS has spotlighted it as a "Book Now" destination because it has so many possibilities. Yes, Tobago is sometimes overshadowed by the Trinidad Carnival, but that can be a good thing. Tobago is a true escape, a quieter place where you can relax and immerse yourself in the culture, the nature, the beaches. It all comes together in May; you'll see the endangered leatherback turtles, some weighing up to 1,000 pounds and seeming to lay that many eggs. Other natural spots to see:

•Grafton Caledonia Wildlife Sanctuary

•Little Tobago Island, just offshore and teeming with 200 bird species

•Argyle Waterfall, perfect for hiking to

•Main Forest Ridge, part of the lush beauty of Tobago

Of course, you can go to Tobago any time of year. The best way to get there is flying into Port-of-Spain, Trinidad (POS), then taking a short connecting flight to Tobago (TAB).
