Island Shoes for Happy Feet
Water is life. The folks over at OluKai have built their entire footwear company on this notion, creating the name from two Hawaiian words that embrace their philosophy: olu (comfort) and kai (ocean). I got a pair of the Auanas ($150, pictured here) and won’t ever leave on an island trip without them. They’re super comfy, naturally water-resistant and give me just the right amount of snugness and support. I’d wear them hiking through Kauai’s Waimea Canyon or just out to dinner with a cute pair of jeans. The Auana is the newest member of OluKai’s Mauka (“toward the land”) collection and will be released this fall. If flip-flops are more your style, check out OluKai’s Makai (“toward the ocean”) collection. Feel free to dunk them in the water. Each pair of OluKais sports the makau, or bone hook, a traditional Polynesian symbol said to give you strength, good luck and safe passage over water. Go grab a pair — your feet with thank you.
