Jamaica Tourism Honors Star of Volkswagen Commercial
Remember the controversy over that clever Volkswagen Super Bowl commercial? Turns out the actor who starred as the Midwestern office work with the Jamaican accent is getting a lot of love from the island nation.
Erik Nicolaisen, along with music icon Jimmy Cliff, were recently honored by the Jamaica Tourist Board at a cocktail reception in Kingston.
"The Jamaica Tourist Board felt it fitting to acknowledge both Jimmy Cliff and Erik Nicolaisen for their roles in bringing awareness to Jamaica," said John Lynch, Director of Tourism for the Jamaica Tourist Board. "Cliff has been a valuable representative for the island for many years, and Nicolaisen has provided tremendous exposure through his character in the commercial."
Critics in the aftermath of the Super Bowl criticized the VW ad as being possibly rascist. Seems Jamaica doesn't agree. While visiting the island, Nicolaisen, along with his Jamaican brother-in-law, visited a number of iconic locations, including Mystic Mountain and Dunn's River Falls.
