Plan your trip to the Seychelles

November 12th, 2009

Featured in the 2010 ISLANDS Calendar (November), the remote Seychelles in the far-off Indian Ocean inspire by their colors — granite, green and blue — as well as the unyielding sense you’ve landed somewhere perfect.

FLY Air Seychelles to the capital Victoria on the island of Mahé and connect to Praslin island. From there take Inter Island Ferry to La Digue island, home of Anse Source D'Argent, a beach famed for its elephantine granite boulders. Protected by reef, the beach is also great for snorkeling and swimming.

VISIT other top Seychelles beaches including long, powder-soft Beau Vallon on Mahé island and idyllic Anse Lazio on Praslin island. The Vallee de Mai preserve, a UNESCO World Heritage site also on Praslin, is a small valley preserved close to its original state and home to the coco de mer palm with its astonishing seeds.

STAY at the private island resort of Fregate Island. Named for the soaring seabird, it offers pampering in the guise of simplicity.

EAT artistic cuisine at beachfront Cafe des Arts or Le Dauphin, both at Le Duc de Praslin on the calm waters of the Cote d'Or.

VENTURE to uninhabited Aldabra, a large atoll 600 miles southwest of the main Seychelles group and also a UNESCO World Heritage site, with one of the world’s largest populations of giant tortoises.
