British Virgin Islands
 Overview

Famous by Sea, Undiscovered by Land
Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada, Jost Van Dyke...the names beckon from well-worn sailing charts around the world, because the waters of the BVI are the legendary cruising grounds of the West Indies. Charter sailing -- both "bareboat" and crewed -- is centered in Tortola's laid-back, waterfront capital, Road Town,
and while standing at the helm isn't the only way to see these picturesque islands, it's certainly the most memorable.

ISLANDS contributing editor Ken McAlpine and photographer Jen Judge visited the BVI for their "Virgin Territory" article. Rather than see these islands by boat, as so many visitors do, they focused on exploring them by foot. Their experience on the roads, peaks and vistas of Tortola, Virgin Gorda and Guana Island reveals the hidden treasures of the BVI. Read the full story.
