Meet the Editors

We, the ISLANDS editors, are excited to share our love of islands with you through our trip reports, photo albums, maps, videos, articles and more. Follow our blogs to discover advice for your next island trip. And feel free to leave comments for us so we can help you further!

eddy-blog-headshotEddy Patricelli, editor-in-chief
"My love for the islands began while traveling the world as a competitive windsurfer. I've lived in the Caribbean and Hawaii, though these days my favorite islands lie off the coast of Alaska. I'm originally from Oregon and still adjusting to life in Winter Park, Florida, where ISLANDS is based. My experts blog covers the writers who cover the island world."

blog-headshot-3Chris Tauber, content manager
"Whenever an ISLANDS editor travels, I'm the one who says, 'So you're taking a lot of photos, right? And we'll make a video, map, Twitter feed, Facebook update and -- of course -- a great article for the magazine.' When I'm not on an island myself, I look for what can help travelers, whether in iPhone apps or deal-finding widgets, in my Best of the Week blog."

islands-matthew-millerMatthew Miller, features editor
“Travel equals story for me — seeing things, meeting people, asking questions. What’s at stake here? What happens next? I grew up in Oregon in boots caked with trail mud. I want to reach each island’s most remote corners, experience something wild, then tell the world. My destinations blog highlights great opportunities on islands. Matthew, want to go to ... Yes!”

Adrienne EgolfAdrienne Egolf, associate editor
"Don’t ask me to choose my favorite island. At any given moment it could be Captiva (where I vacationed as a kid), Corfu (where I honeymooned), Eleuthera (where I learned to dive) or one of the countless other islands I've fallen in love with in person and in dreams. Follow my daily island news blog for the latest updates and bookworm musings."

loribarbelyLori Barbely, photo editor
"I select imagery, assign stories to photographers, oversee the photo contest -- basically everything to make sure ISLANDS has amazing travel photography. My recent trips have been storm-prone -- including Thailand (a typhoon) and Australia (a cyclone). You can learn a lot in those challenging situations. Find out more in my photo-tip blog."

islands-ashley-fraxedasAshley Fraxedas, research editor
"I’m a die-hard Florida girl, so I’ve been lucky enough to grow up surrounded by hundreds of beautiful islands. My white Christmas is heading to the white-sand beaches of Estero Island or Islamorada (I get cold when it's less than 75 degrees). Now I have the amazing (and sometimes daunting!) job of researching islands all over the world. See my travel deals blog."

Todd WeiseTodd Weise, online editor
"I am a native Floridian and 11-year veteran of the U.S. Navy. I have traveled quite extensively to places like the North Atlantic, Mediterranean, Caribbean and South America. My dream is to go to the Arctic someday to see polar bears, and to Africa for the big cats (which remind me of my Siamese cat, Cracker). Find out what's most popular on islands.com in my blog."

And we sincercely hope that you have left knowing how to perform this most necessary act (wining) of Trinidad Carnival. If not, perhaps a refresher course at Trinidad Carnival 2010 is order.

Hey Eddy - I just wanted to

Hey Eddy - I just wanted to say that I loved your article on your experience at Trinidad Carnival!! It was hilarious and I could visualize everything that you were talking about, esp as I too played with Tribe this year and had a ball :) I do have to disagree with the poster above as it is nice to bring your wife at least once so she too will enjoy what you have experienced - hope to see you in Tribe 2K10 :)

This is about the Trinidad

This is about the Trinidad Carnival article by Eddy Patricelli. If you want to be where you are not "the only white guy", try Harts. It's the known white people band in Trinidad. Otherwise, being the only white guy wasn't bad thing. It made you special, right? ;)
And the ladies zoomed in on you as a token. It's all love. That's Trinidad for you. Hope you go back again!

Hey Eddy, loved your first

Hey Eddy, loved your first person account of Carnival, love it! I won't suggest you bring your wife next time though, at Carnival everyone's single and loving it, you don't carry sand to the beach baby. lol

Re the Trinidad carnival

Re the Trinidad carnival article in the latest issue, the Trini term is "wining" not "whining"

Love the magazine!

You can see the Trinidad
