Royal Hideaway Playacar has a lot going for it. Located on the white sands of an idyllic beach on the Riviera Maya, the resort delivers spectacular scenic beauty, all-inclusive comforts and luxurious adult-only facilities, including six pools, a state-of-the-art spa and much more. But the Royal Hideaway Playacar experience you’ll be savoring for years to come might be a bit more unexpected. The resort’s diverse array of culinary offerings will surprise and delight guests, whether they’re enjoying authentic Mexican flavors, casual eats or fine dining.
Michelin Starred Cuisine
Royal Hideaway Playacar’s culinary offerings were elevated and enhanced in late 2017 when Andalusian chef Alejandro Sánchez joined the luxury resort’s team as Gastronomic Director. Sánchez’ experience stretches back decades and his resume includes a coveted Michelin star, one of the highest honors in the restaurant world. The Michelin star was bestowed upon Sánchez for his work at Roquetas de Mar, in Almeria, Spain – he was one of the youngest Spanish chefs to ever receive a star.
Thanks to Sánchez, guests of the Royal Hideaway Playacar resort will have the opportunity to enjoy dishes designed and prepared by a world-renowned chef. His arrival at Royal Hideaway Playacar has already led to upgrades in the resort’s five specialty restaurants.
The Chef’s Table Experience
Las Ventanas, the acclaimed restaurant at Royal Hideaway Playacar, offers the intimate dining experience that foodies have been searching for. The Chef’s Table at Las Ventanas – the only such program on the Yucatan Peninsula – offers a six- or 12-course gourmet tasting menu and wine pairing designed and presented by the hotel’s executive chef. Served in a stylish private dining room, you’ll interact with the chef and his expert kitchen team, as they provide insight into their entire process. You’ll also be able to watch your dishes being prepared, either through the large kitchen window or by means of a television monitors that give you a privileged view of the chef at work.
Las Ventanas prides itself on gathering as much as 95 percent of its ingredients from local sources, whether it’s the freshest catch of the day or locally grown fruits and vegetables. At the Chef’s Table you’ll learn all about where each delicious part of your meal came from, coming away with a greater appreciation for Playa del Carmen’s bountiful harvests. But even though the ingredients are local, the offerings at Las Ventanas are often internationally focused – don’t expect traditional Mexican fare. Innovation is the name of the game and each course is guaranteed to surprise and delight your palette. And definitely save room for dessert!

Connoisseurs take note: the Tequilaria includes a program of tequila produced by small, micro producers. These are as good as (if not better than) many of the big name brands but are rarely found outside of their immediate regions. Want to get even deeper into the tequila world? The resort hosts a weekly Tequila Master Class that ventures through the history of the spirit, while guests sample from each of the major types of Tequila — Blanco, Reposado & Añejo.
