VACATIONS

Florida
Since 1851, Florida has seen 125 hurricanes, many of which occurred from mid-August to October. Contrary to popular belief, no areas of the state are safe from hurricanes.
Three of the worst hurricanes in the United States have hit Florida, and due to the warming of the ocean, more major tropical storms have developed in recent years.
Texas
Texas has experienced the second-largest number of hurricanes in U.S. history. Category 4 Hurricane Harvey was the second most costly natural disaster in the U.S. in 2017.
Texas storms have a dangerous surge and subsequent flooding. The National Weather Service says this is due to "the shallow nature of the continental shelf east of the Texas Coast."
Louisiana
Louisiana has the third-most hurricane occurrences, and three of them number among the costliest hurricanes in U.S. history, including Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
New Orleans has a 92% of getting hit by a tropical cyclone in a given year, per NOAA. When a cyclone's wind gusts reach 74 miles per hour or higher, it may become a hurricane.
