From its sweeping landscapes to its lively pub atmospheres, Ireland has long fascinated Europe travel expert Rick Steves. However, one spot in particular has captured his heart.
Steves shared on his website, "Colorful little Dingle — my favorite town in all of Ireland." Dingle embodies the qualities that Steves most admires about Ireland as a whole.
Known as An Daingean in Gaelic, the maritime town with less than 2,000 full-time residents blends the area's natural beauty and traditional practices with modern conveniences.
Steves explained, "It's a scenically gorgeous area perfectly suited to long walks and bike rides, and it's dotted with fascinating remnants of prehistoric Ireland."
Visitors can explore these natural wonders on their own or with a local tour guide. Steves recommends visiting the Gallarus Oratory, a church likely more than a millennium old.
He added, "It feels remote, and it is — but its little main town...has everything you might need." You'll find plenty of accommodations, shopping, food, and lively pubs in town.
