Enjoy A Caribbean-Like Paradise At This Northeastern State Park

VACATIONS

If you can't make it to the Caribbean, you can find gorgeous water that shifts between green, turquoise, and deep blue in Green Lakes State Park in Fayetteville, New York.
The park has two lovely bodies of water, Round Lake and Green Lake. Both are meromictic, meaning the sediment at the bottom doesn't float up to the top, making the water clear.
You can swim at the beach at the northern end of Green Lake from Memorial Day through Labor Day. There are lifeguards on duty and an All-Terrain wheelchair you can use for free.
You can also rent kayaks and row boats at the boathouse near the beach. While you're swimming and boating, keep an eye out for cool and unusual birds.
Green Lakes State Park has plenty of amenities, an 18-hole golf course, and over 10 miles of hiking trails. You can also camp at the park from mid-May through mid-October.
