By Aimee Long

VACATIONS

Paris, France, is one the most famous cities in the world, but it can often be overcrowded. Instead, try visiting the nearby city of Reims, an underrated gem with much to offer.
Travelers can take a 45-minute train from Paris to visit the various Champagne vineyards and cellars, explore WWII history, and walk in the footsteps of Joan of Arc in Reims.
There are at least half a dozen different Champagne cellars located in the heart of Reims, including famous wineries like Mumm and Taittinger.
Possibly the most famous Champagne house in Reims, the Pommery takes its guests almost 100 feet underground to discover not only Champagne cellars but also Roman chalk pits.
However, there's more to Reims than Champagne. Reims has several UNESCO World Heritage Sites, such as the Reims Cathedral and the Basilique Saint Remi.
While Reims might not be France's food capital, you will find regional specialties like Chaource, jambon de Champenois, and the historic les biscuits roses de Reims.
