Guides Might Refuse To Take Hikers On This Dangerous Utah Trek

VACATIONS

Buckskin Gulch, a famous hiking destination in the Southwestern U.S., is known for its narrow, twisty slot canyons that can become extremely dangerous due to unpredictable weather.
The primary risk comes from flash flooding, which occurs with little to no warning, often leaving hikers trapped in the miles-long, hundreds-of-feet-deep canyon with no escape.
Local guides often refuse to take hikers into the canyon if there is any indication of adverse weather, as even experienced hikers can’t outmaneuver the swift and powerful floods.
In 2023, two hikers tragically
lost their lives to a sudden flash flood in Buckskin Gulch, despite one of them having previously navigated the trek, underscoring the inherent risk.
