Rick Steves Says This Iconic Portugal City Has Europe's Best Food
By Kristin Conard

VACATIONS

If you're a foodie, Rick Steves recommends Lisbon as a destination. Online, he refers to Portugal's capital as a "charming city proud of its tasty delicacies and heavenly wines."
Steves recommends trying "pastéis de natan," egg custard tart pastries, and visiting the Mercado da Ribeira, also known as Time Out Market, which opened in 1892.
In 2014, "Time Out Lisbon" assembled the city’s best chefs, food purveyors, and culinary artisans into one place. This market is a combination of vendors and food stalls.
Steves also recommends going on a food tour to try some of Portugal's specialties, like "carne de porco à Alentejana" (pork, potatoes, and clams) and "bacalhau" (dry, salted cod).
