Rick Steves Warns Not To Use This Payment Method While Traveling Abroad

VACATIONS

Spending money while traveling is vastly different from spending at home. Travel guru Rick Steves suggests using your credit card the entirety of the trip, with one tiny exception.
Steves recommends that travelers forgo the use of a debit card and rely on their cash and credit cards instead to minimize the chances of having their bank account compromised.
"Because a debit card pulls funds directly from your bank account, potential charges incurred by a thief will stay on your account while your bank investigates," he writes.
However, you shouldn't abandon your debit card entirely. Steves says it's still wise to keep one around, as ATMs with a debit card tend to offer better rates than exchange centers.
