a mountainous region
The American Mountain Town That Feels Like Switzerland
By Dawn Hammon

VACATIONS

Colorado is full of surprises, including the town of Ouray, which is nestled into a river valley within the San Juan Mountains. It is a compact and walkable town.
It is elevated at 7,792 feet, and the mountainous region’s landscape and climate have earned Ouray the nickname "Switzerland of America." Each season has a different appeal.
The town is full of Victorian-style architecture and log cabins. There is a wide variety of restaurants to explore, as well as the town's brewery, which can be tackled on foot.
There are several locations to visit hot springs, which are a must-see. Right outside of town, there are over 300 miles of trails for hiking, biking, or off-roading.
