The Bathroom Scam Rick Steves Warns Tourists About In Europe

European bathrooms often have an attendant who maintains the bathroom. While tipping a bathroom attendant is expected, travel pro Rick Steves warns that they may scam tourists.
Steves says, "Many attendants leave only bills and too-big coins in the tray to bewilder the full-bladdered tourist. The local equivalent of about 50 cents is plenty."
Don't be surprised if you're given an attitude by a bathroom attendant. Steves says, "Humor them, understand them, and carry some change so you can leave them a coin or two."
