The Cabo San Lucas Alternative That's Just As Pretty Without The Crowds

VACATIONS

La Paz in Mexico is a colonial jewel box of a city. The capital city of Baja sits on a small bay on the Sea of Cortez, a couple hours north of the touristy crowds of Cabo.
The beach town centers on graceful living, combining old-world architecture, a vibrant cultural scene, swoon-worthy seafood, and Baja's famously striking natural beauty.
Visitors can stroll down the Malecon, an esplanade lined with public art and bars. In the Zona Central, you can shop boutiques, sample the coffee scene, and browse galleries.
In cooler months, half-day trips to swim with whale sharks leave right from the Malecon. End your day at Estrella Del Mar, where you can sit at a table with your feet in the sand.
The nearby Balandra Bay is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The blue-green bay is calm and protected, so you won't encounter rip tides and can easily snorkel.
Our favorite way to experience La Paz is to live like an expat. Book a vacation rental right in town and eat the famous Baja fish taco at Claros Fish Jr. or delicious street tacos.
