The Little-Known Beach Town That's Right Between LA And San Diego

By Carrie Lindsey

VACATIONS

While tourists often flock to San Diego and Los Angeles for their Southern California vacations, the beautiful, underrated beach town of Carlsbad lies between the two cities.
Often called "The Village by the Sea," Carlsbad offers stunning beauty, small-town charm, and a list of things to do in weather that's usually between 64 and 74 degrees F.
If you're traveling with children, Carlsbad is home to LEGOLAND California, an amusement park geared toward kids ages 2-12. Afterward, check out the kid-friendly SEA LIFE Aquarium.
Both attractions are right next to the world-famous Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch, where you'll find 55 acres of vibrant Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers.
The flowers are seasonal, so plan your trip between early March and early May to see them in bloom. You can also pick fresh strawberries nearby at Carlsbad Strawberry Company.
No visit to Carlsbad is complete without a trip to South Ponto Beach or the harder-to-reach Terramar Beach. Visitors can also camp at South Carlsbad State Beach Campgrounds.
