VACATIONS
Gooseberry Falls State Park in Northern Minnesota's Lake Country is full of stunning waterfalls in an assortment of styles, including plunge, multi-step, and cascade.
There is no bad time to visit Gooseberry Falls: The falls thunder mightily in the springtime, you can ski or snowshoe in to see them in winter, and autumn offers colors galore.
The 2.2-mile Gitchi Gummi trail is picturesque, with many side trails to viewpoints, while the 2-mile Upper and Fifth Falls Loop trail offers a stroll through quaking Aspen.
In the summertime, combine the Middle and Lower Falls loop with the Gitchi Gummi for a perfect warm-weather ramble to see waterfalls and a retaining wall built in the 1930s.
After visiting Gooseberry Falls State Park, take a short, 20-minute drive up Highway 1 to Tettegouche State Park, where you can swim underneath more gorgeous waterfalls.
