By Leslie Veliz

Lake Compounce in Bristol, Connecticut, dates back to 1846, making it 178 years old at the time of this publication. As such, it is the oldest amusement park in the U.S.
With more than 45 rides, Lake Compounce is a massive theme park with rides that cater to both kids and thrill seekers, providing fun for the whole family.
Uniquely, the park has a Sky Coaster in which individuals are strapped in harnesses while lying face down, taken to the top of a tower, and launched into a descent.
Historic Rides
The park has two historic rides: the Wildcat rollercoaster and a carousel. The Wildcat was constructed in 1927 and is the oldest wooden rollercoaster in Connecticut.
The carousel was built in 1898 and has been part of the National Register of Historic Places since 1978. Lake Compounce claims it is one of the oldest in the country.
Lake Compounce's Crocodile Cove is the biggest water park in Connecticut. It has water attractions for every guest and is only open from late May until early September.
