By Christine Dulion
VACATIONS
Prior to Albany, Kingston was the capital of New York. The city is chock full of historical sites, including homes from before the American Revolution and old public buildings.
Foodie tourists will love Kingston's top-rated restaurants, like the award-winning Santa Fe and the James Beard Award-nominated Top Taste, a wonderful Jamaican spot.
Both food and history buffs should visit Eng's, one of the oldest Chinese restaurants in the country, and Boice Bros Dairy, a dairy shop that’s over 100 years old.
As for the best food in Kingston, several names come up. Fabulous Lola is known for its wood-fired pizzas, Moonburger has veggie smash burgers, and Kyoto Sushi is a local favorite.
The underrated riverside city will not only impress your tastebuds, but it's also just under a two-hour drive from New York City and less crowded than other touristy spots.
