Sand castle at Texas beach

Walk For Miles On The Beach At Texas' Mesmerizing Island State Park

By Hillary Louise Johnson

VACATIONS

The Texas Gulf Coast's barrier islands provide a unique habitat for wildlife, and Mustang Island State Park features miles of unspoiled beach and paddle trails.
You can explore windswept dunes to discover nesting sea turtles, spend the day beachcombing, view dolphins at sunset, or ride in a glowing, transparent kayak.
A Mustang must-do is the paddling trail consisting of three kayak routes. Skimming over shallow waters, you may see crab, jellyfish, sea turtles, and stingrays.
If you feel like trying your hand at kayak fishing, this area is famous for it. Paddlers looking to rent gear can do so in Port Aransas, Mustang Island's only town.
The park's camping facilities range from water and electric hook-ups to primitive tent sites. Public access is taken very seriously, so you can drive your car right onto the beach.
