What To Do When Visiting Pisa, Italy (Beyond Seeing The Leaning Tower)

VACATIONS

When you think of Pisa, Italy, the Leaning Tower springs to mind, but Rick Steves says there is so much more to do. The travel expert takes time to walk around and see other sites.
By the tower is the domed baptistery, and the cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. You can also lounge on the grassy area there called the Field of Miracles.
Visit the Arno River, which flows through Pisa. On the south bank, there's the Gothic church Santa Maria della Spina, which had a relic that is said to be a thorn from Jesus' crown.
On the northern side of the Field of Miracles is the Camposanto Monumentale, an enclosed cemetery said to contain soil from the place Jesus was believed to have been crucified.
Steves also recommends the Corso Italia, which is full of shops, pedestrian areas, cafes, and restaurants. It's next to the train station, making it easy to access for visitors.
