VACATIONS
If you're looking for an Italian destination that isn't overrun by tourists, consider Cilento, Italy. The region features ruins, a castle, beaches, caves, and grottos.
Cilento is a coastal region, and many of its beaches have exceptionally clear and clean water. A great one to stop at is Marina di Ascea, a long beach with free public areas.
Palinuro is down the coast and has the Grotta Azzurra, a blue grotto cave, as well as a stone arch. The largest city in the area, Agropoli, has a number of beaches as well.
Agropoli is where Ancel Keys studied the healthy effects of the Mediterranean diet. While here, try some seafood and the region's famous buffalo mozzarella and buffalo milk gelato.
History lovers should visit the medieval castle city of Castellabate, the ruins of Paestum's three well-preserved Doric temples, and the city walls in the ruins of Velia.
