Why Micanopy Is An Under-The-Radar Florida Town Worth Seeing
By Nina Phillips
VACATIONS
If you want a taste of authentic Florida, visit Micanopy, a small town in the center of the state full of history, old architecture, antiques, and an atmosphere of peace.
Micanopy is 203 years old, and fewer than 700 people live in the area. To take in the majority of the town and see all of the major buildings, head to Cholokka Boulevard.
History buffs should swing by the Town Hall or the Historical Society Museum, both of which are equipped with flyers that offer guides on how to take a walking tour of the town.
Thanks to all the water nearby, you’ll likely see gators swimming and lounging near Micanopy’s roads. You'll find some around nearby trails and in parks like Paynes Prairie.
Because Micanopy is so small, there are few places to stay. Guests can immerse themselves in history at the 1845 Herlong Mansion, stay at Micanopy Inn, or park their RV nearby.
