The Bikini Turns 66

Today marks the 66th anniversary of the bikini. On July 5, 1946, French designer Louis Reard unveiled a daring two-piece swimsuit at the Piscine Molitor in Paris. The garmet was named after Bikini Atoll where the US had tested a nuclear bomb just 5 days earlier. Réard hoped the burst of excitement it caused would be as explosive as an atomic bomb. We've pulled together every ISLANDS cover featuring a bikini.
