Island Cookbooks

Wharekauhau Taste and Flavor

The chefs at the Wharekauhau Lodge and Country Estate, a 5,500-acre working farm located in the gourmet food land of Wairarapa, New Zealand, compiled this cookbook with their raw surroundings in mind. Each recipe was inspired by the lodge's farm-fresh ambience: from grazing sheep and cattle to native fern roots. The Martha's Vineyard Cookbook

Long-time Vineyard residents Jean Stewart Wexler and LouiseTate King devoted this seafood cookbook to the region's most abundant food group, with recipes that reflect the island's founders, from the Wampanoag Indians to Portuguese fishermen. Insider's Taste The ingre- dient list for these recipes goes beyond obvious New England seafood — think tautog fish and Jonah crabs, and wild plants that yield rose hips and day lily buds. But don't worry — there's still an entire chapter devoted to chowders. Our Favorite Recipe Mussels with tomato, bacon and linguine takes an island staple in a pasta-loving direction.
