Travel Pro Samantha Brown Reveals Her Favorite Airport In The World (And It's In The US)

Samantha Brown, travel expert and host of "Samantha Brown's Places to Love," knows a thing or two about airports. She has visited more than 70 countries and travels 150 days out of the year. Brown has made a career helping others plan their dream vacation or cruise. She also advises travelers on how to avoid airport mistakes that could slow them down. Brown suggests checking in and getting to the airport early on her website. She also prefers packing a carry-on rather than a checked bag. But did you know that Brown prizes one airport above all others?

Speaking to Forbes in early 2024, Brown said, "My favorite airport is Tampa. It is the best airport in the United States. I've been flying through Tampa for once a month for 15 years, with a slight break for COVID. But it's always been such an easy experience with the flow of traffic, how they've done the architecture in terms of keeping people moving, crowd control and then amenities." This was not the first time Brown has shown love for Tampa International Airport (TPA).

After Brown posted a TikTok in June 2023, fans noticed she filmed the video at TPA, prompting comments praising it. Brown replied to one of these remarks, saying, "Best airport in the world. Imo." In September 2023, TPA ranked number one on the J.D. Power North America Airport Satisfaction Study. Needless to say, travelers appreciate Tampa International Airport.

What makes Tampa International Airport so great?

While it is not the busiest airport in the world or country, Tampa International Airport sees 21 million travelers a year. Despite the high volume of passengers, TPA prides itself on expedited security screenings and easy access to gates. Samantha Brown even told Forbes that when she flies out of TPA, "You always leave on time and arrive early in New York" (her city of residence). TPA received another honor shortly after topping the J.D. Power North America Airport Satisfaction Study. It came in second on USA Today's list of "10 best large airports in the US." The publication cited its array of dining options as a reason behind its decision.

Restaurants at the airport include everything from P.F. Changs to Bavaro's, which serves wood-fired pizza, and Cigar City Taproom, a brewery. In her interview with Forbes, Brown said she enjoys dining at Columbia Café. The Cuban eatery, found by gate E68, serves tapas, salads, sandwiches, and more. If you're wondering what Brown orders, she commented on her TikTok from June 2023 that she opts for its "chopped salad and bean soup." Columbia Café opens daily from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Moreover, TPA is home to Tampa Airport Marriott. Yes, that's right — the airport has a connected hotel, perfect for those with lengthy layovers or travelers who want to stay nearby. Tampa Airport Marriott features an outdoor pool and pet-friendly policies. Rates start at under $300.

Samantha Brown also adores this international airport

If you ever fly to Tampa International Airport and visit the Tampa Bay area, Samantha Brown has a suggestion for your itinerary: Anna Maria Island. It's famous for its white sand beaches, such as Bean Point and Coquina Beach. On her website, Samantha Brown noted that visitors must view the sunset on Anna Marie Island. This destination awaits only about an hour and a half from TPA.

However, Brown cherishes an airport other than TPA. During her interview with Forbes, she identified Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) as her second favorite. SIN, named the "World's Best Airport" by Skytrax in 2023, is a wonderland. It features upscale shops and several out-of-this-world attractions, including green spaces, a hedge maze, art installations, and more. Famously, SIN has a massive indoor waterfall known as the HSBC rain vortex (pictured).

Speaking about SIN, Brown told Forbes, "It's overwhelming. It's almost like Las Vegas in an airport. There are what I call side streets in the airport. Instead of taking the main thoroughfare, you can go on the side and find Zen gardens, koi ponds, little waterfalls and seating areas where you can stretch out and get a sleep in. It's incredible. The last time I was there, I had a three-hour layover, and I still had to run to make my plane."
