Cheeca Lodge & Spa In The Florida Keys Reopens

After an extensive renovation, the luxury resort on Islamorada started welcoming guests on March 30.

Hurricane Irma may have knocked the lights out back in September, but hotels in the Florida Keys are rebuilding and opening for business again. The latest is Cheeca Lodge & Spa, which reopened March 30 after a six-month, $25-million renovation.

The 214-room property on Islamorada announced its restoration of rooms, suites, public spaces, spa, dining areas and landscaping is complete. Among the highlights of the work are:

  • A renovated lobby bar featuring reclaimed, ocean-worn wood from the resort's waterfront location.
  • A new executive chef on property along with additional menu items at the hotel's signature restaurants – Atlantic's Edge and Nikai Sushi Bar & Restaurant — as well as a new family-friendly Italian bistro called Mia Cucina.
  • Additional treatment options at the spa, which now includes a wet room with Vichy shower, hydrotherapy facilities with a steam room and showers, along with a new fitness center. Additional facilities include an adults-only heated lap pool, pool-side cabanas with butler service and seven treatment rooms.
  • A brand-new oceanfront pool opening in May 2018 that will offer additional poolside lounges and cabanas along with a second tiki bar. The new pool — the resort's third — replaces what was once the saltwater lagoon.

"Returning with our signature barefoot elegance and impeccable tropical ambiance, we're thrilled to welcome back both locals and visitors to the Florida Keys," Bob LaCasse, general manager of Cheeca Lodge & Spa, said in an official announcement. "Rich in history, the timeless property has been a staple in the Florida Keys since 1946 and we're thrilled to reopen with a renovated and refreshed look and feel. We cannot wait to welcome back a new generation of guests and those who have made the hotel an Islamorada tradition over the last 72 years."
