Here's an early peek at Holland America's newest shipms Koningsdam — which will debut in February 2016. The Koningsdam will feature the cruise line's first staterooms built with families in mind. The 32 family ocean-view staterooms can accommodate five guests and will range from 222 to 231 square feet. Amenities will include:

  • Two lower beds convertible to one queen-size bed; one sofa bed for two persons; one upper bed.

  • Two bathrooms — one with bathtub, shower, sink and toilet; one with a shower and sink.

  • Flat-panel TV featuring video-on-demand

  • Corner bar unit

  • Mini-fridge

  • Bedside USB ports

Holland America has youth programs aimed at its younger guests too. Club HAL has activities for guests ages 3 to 17, ranging from pizza making and treasure hunts for the little ones to dance classes, nightclubs and culinary workshops for 'tweens and teens.

The ms Koningsdam also features single ocean-view cabins for solo travelers, a first for Holland America. The 12 single cabins range from 127 to 172 square feet and offer one lower bed.

After an initial seven-day premiere voyage in the Mediterranean, the ms Koningsdam will sail 12-day itineraries in Europe through early May 2016. The 2,650-guest ship is Holland America's first new ship since 2010.
