Jamaica Main

The Real Flavor of Jamaica Many visitors know Jamaica through one of its four major resort areas: Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, Negril and Port Antonio. Travelers who explore farther afield find a beautiful island, a vibrant culture that goes far beyond reggae, and endless opportunities to play under the sun. You can take day hikes or trek through the Rio Grande Valley, then celebrate with a cup of Blue Mountain coffee. In Kingston, the island’s cultural heritage is on display at the National Gallery of Art, and you can of course learn about the most famous Jamaican of all at the Bob Marley Museum.

ISLANDS contributing editor Ramin Ganeshram and photographer Shelly Strazis recently visited Jamaica for an authentic eating tour. Ganeshram’s family roots in the Caribbean and even her experience as a New York chef lends the journey an especially authentic and unique perspective. From softball-sized beef patties to the super-peppery jerk chicken, Ganeshram offers a true taste of Jamaica.
