Look Inside This Rare, Phenomenal $22.5 Million Maui Estate

This home is fit for a royal family, or at least a family that wants every moment in Hawaiian to be elegant and unforgettable.

Having just spent 10 days in Maui for a family vacation and distant relative's wedding, I couldn't help but set aside a little time to explore inward—especially when it came to the island's magnificent homes. After all, who among us doesn't love popping open the Realtor app now and then to do a little daydreaming, and who doesn't love to actually do that in person? But nothing I saw while driving around in our Jeep rental compared to one special estate that is currently for sale on that same island.

With only seven lots, the Keahou subdivision is already a unicorn, so when the estate at 4557 Makena Road hit the market, it was a very special occasion. And because it'll be a very long time before another property is listed here, the clock is ticking for big time dreamers to make the call and lock down this $22.5 million 3-acre oasis that includes a 5,882-sq. ft. home that is essentially a mini resort.

At the heart of that sentiment is the spacious pool and deck area, which serves as a prestigious setting for a family (or two) to enjoy the surrounding natural beauty while visiting for a week or, preferably, a month. Grab a seat and some shade on a couch beneath a giant umbrella or place some snacks on a table beneath the covered patio so everyone can eat as they please between swimming and sneaking off to Palauea Bay across the street.

There will also never be concern about extended families or friends not feeling at home, because the hosts will have their master suite, while another sits on the opposite side of the estate, ready to spoil. There are five bedrooms in all, as well as four full bathrooms, in this 2007 home that was remodeled with a subtle casual vibe in 2018.

The open interior layout allows for group gatherings in the kitchen and living room, but the star of the show is the home theater, which boasts large recliners for everyone to kick back and enjoy the latest Marvel movie in ultimate style.

As always, location is everything, and this home is close to the Shops at Wailea, the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea and Grand Wailea Resort and Spa, and three awesome golf courses. And when everyone wants a break from the home cooking, there are also plenty of ideal dining options nearby, including the must-visit Humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa at the aforementioned Grand Wailea.
