St. John: Moonlighting

Synchronize your visit with the full moon, and see St. John at its best. Start the evening with a hike to Ram Head, the island's southernmost point. Watch the sunset and moonrise from a rocky promontory 200 feet above the sea. To your right, the sky blazes as the sun sinks into the Caribbean Sea. To your left, the moon rises, illuminating the islands to the east. Hike back in silver moonlight and head to the monthly full-moon party at Miss Lucy's Restaurant on the waterfront of Friis Bay. Enjoy traditional West Indian cuisine — fungi, plantains, peas and rice and your choice of fresh fish, roast pig, beef or crab cakes — at the 30-year-old restaurant, then mingle with locals and dance beneath the moon to live blues and reggae performed right on the beach. usvitourism.vi; 340-693-5244
