Experience

Kayla Brock is a travel journalist and photographer with more than six years of experience covering Black culture, solo travel, and Midwest destinations. Born and raised in Illinois, she spent 22 years exploring nearby Chicago, developing an intimate knowledge of the city's neighborhoods and cultural institutions. She highlighted Chicago's South Loop Hotel in the historic Bronzeville district while covering Black-owned hotels for Condé Nast Traveler, where she also held a staff role managing the publication's social media account. Kayla has also contributed travel content to Essence, Business Insider, and Matador Network. After briefly living in Portland, she returned to the Chicago area, reaffirming it as her home base.

Education

Kayla has a bachelor's degree in international journalism from Richmond American University in London.
