  • Shelly speaks English, Russian, and Hebrew, and is currently learning Italian. She has lived in Europe, the Middle East, North America, and Asia.
  • An avid explorer who has traveled to more than 20 countries, she has camped in open deserts and near volcanoes, tasted everything from balut to scorpion, and spent days in a Buddhist forest monastery.
  • She also studied abroad for a semester at RMIT University in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, a life-changing experience that sparked her love for travel.

Experience

Shelly has worn many hats throughout her career — from marketing coordinator to primary and high school art teacher to film production designer and travel journalist. Her diverse path led her to write for Static Media's Explore brand for over a year in 2023 before transitioning into an editing role at Islands in 2024, where she now serves as the senior news editor. She loves researching cultural and historical details, unique destinations, and ways to make travel more affordable. Born in Israel, raised in Latvia, and now based in Canada, Shelly's multicultural background has long fueled her curiosity about the world. When she travels, she seeks to experience destinations through a local lens, finding joy in meaningful cultural connections.

Education

Shelly has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in New Media with a minor in Psychology from Toronto Metropolitan University, as well as a project management certificate from the University of Toronto.
