S Hotel Jamaica Brings South Beach Style To Montego Bay
The new hotel blends cosmopolitan elegance with rich Jamaican culture and a relaxing beach resort vibe.
Travelers yearning for a truly cosmopolitan Caribbean experience recently had their wishes fulfilled with the opening of the S Hotel Jamaica in Montego Bay. Billed as a "multi-experiential hotel" that blends urban sophistication with the island's rich culture, S Hotel Jamaica is intended to be a shot in the arm for the city's Hip Strip, AKA Jimmy Cliff Boulevard, as it boasts South Beach swagger.
The 120-room S Hotel is the second for Jamaican entrepreneur Chris Issa, who said of the debut, "We're creating a new kind of hotel in Montego Bay, one that infuses modern Jamaican culture balanced with the sophistication of an urban hotel and the laidback style of a beach resort, appealing to international travelers and locals alike."
Giving this S Hotel its Miami vibe was Antrobus Ramirez, a South Florida luxury design firm that oversaw the combination of international resort elegance with elements of local culture, including lumber art created from trees removed from the property during construction and "Faces of Jamaica" photo displays throughout the hotel's restaurants.
Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Rock Steady offers artisanal Jamaican cuisine, among other fare, as well as a broad selection of wine, champagne and custom cocktails. Guests on the go can swing by The Market for buffet-style offerings of Caribbean cuisine, while pool-bound visitors can hit the Pool Bar & Grill for sandwiches and grilled items, as well as a creative list of craft cocktails. Health enthusiasts and energy-seekers can kickstart their mornings at The Ska Café, which serves everything from coffee to detox green juice.
But the most alluring spot in the S Hotel Jamaica is the rooftop Sky Deck, which is only available for people staying in Sky Club Suites. Overlooking the popular Doctor's Cave Beach, the Sky Deck offers a tapas menu and even more cocktails, as well as a VIP glass-enclosed pool with cabanas for an unforgettable Jamaican sunset.
Guests can also experience elements of local history at the Irie Baths and Spa, including subterranean plunge pools and kinetic energy therapy. Manicures, pedicures and massages are also available for the more the more traditional spa experience.
