Travel trends are changing. Instead of booking trips to busy Florida hotspots, vacationers are seeking destinations offering more than just beach resorts and theme parks. With that in mind, it should come as no surprise that Miami and Orlando didn't make Skyscanner's 2027 pick for on-trend destinations for U.S. travelers. Vero Beach tops the list, with Destin and Daytona Beach earning high marks, landing at No. 7 and 10, respectively. Known for its coastal charm, uncrowded beaches, and artsy vibe, Vero Beach has plenty to offer.

When the global travel search engine Skyscanner handpicked America's 10 trendiest travel destinations for 2027, it used a straightforward methodology. Along with its own search trends, data collected from more than 28,000 worldwide travelers, and following a consultation with its trusted partners, the site researched which cities had the biggest increase in flight searches. Vero Beach had jumped a whopping 201% from 2026. It's a sign that more travelers are taking notice of this Treasure Coast gem. So, what makes Vero Beach so appealing? Skyscanner's CEO, Bryan Batista, states that travelers are becoming more intentional while "prioritizing meaningful experiences over material things."

Vero Beach fits that bill, offering visitors a chance to slow down and take in each moment. Getting there is pretty easy, too, with several nearby airports to choose from. Vero Beach Regional Airport (VRB) and Melbourne Orlando International (MLB) are the most convenient. However, if you want to check out things to do in Orlando that aren't Disney World before heading to the coast, consider flying into Orlando International Airport (MCO), where you can pick up a rental at the terminal.

Experience Vero Beach's easygoing coastal charm

As a Floridian living in nearby Orlando, I remember when Vero Beach, one of Indian River County's prime retirement cities, was a sleepy beach town with not much to do. Today, it's a waterfront destination, with Skyscanner highlighting its uncrowded beaches and relaxed lifestyle. Part of its appeal is it feels less like a bustling resort and more like an Old Florida escape, with quiet coastlines, charming markets, and locally-owned shops to explore. You'll have plenty to do, without the pressure of rushing through a packed itinerary.

Start your morning by watching the sunrise at a beach. Amble through South Beach Park or take in ocean views from the boardwalk at Jaycee Beach Park. Humiston Beach Park is also an option, once ongoing improvements are completed. Consider trading the sand for a walk at Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge in the Indian River Lagoon to spot pelicans, manatees, or dolphins. Afterward, head to Vero Grounds Coffee for your caffeine fix. This café on Ocean Drive is a favorite among locals, with one saying on Google Maps, "Such a cute coffee spot. All the staff were so kind. The coffee was delicious. This will be our new fave spot."

If you're visiting on a Saturday, make your way to Vero Beach Farmers Market, just a few steps from the coffee shop. From 8 a.m. to noon you can pick up fresh produce, handmade goods, and other local finds outdoors. Grab a bite and chat with friendly locals before exploring more crowd-free towns along Florida's coast. When you're ready for a change of scenery, drive about 10 minutes inland to Vero Beach's historic downtown district. It's easy to spend hours sauntering past vibrant, vintage storefronts while admiring murals and Mediterranean Revival-style architecture.

Discover Vero Beach's culture through art, music, and bold flavors

Skyscanner also recognizes Vero Beach's "thriving art scene," and a visit to its Historic Downtown Arts District makes it easy to see why. Numerous galleries showcase contemporary paintings and ceramics such as pottery. Collectors will have plenty to browse and might even snag a one-of-a-kind piece to take home.

Peruse more art at Vero Beach Museum of Art, which hosts a collection of rotating and permanent exhibits of works by American and international artists. The museum offers workshops, lectures, and performances, as well as monthly curated events or tours. Vero Beach's creative spirit flows over into the performing arts. Local venues frequently host operas, ballets, and plays, perfect for an evening on the town. For something more casual, check out the free, live concerts at Riverside Theater, where local musicians play in all weather.

Vero Beach's diverse dining scene is a big part of its culture. If you've never tried Haitian food, stop by Zafè'm Caribbean Restaurant, which has a 4.6-star rating on Google Maps. This casual joint is known for its bold flavors with dishes such as griyo (fried pork) and ke bef (oxtail). One satisfied patron said on Google Maps, "I heard this was the best Haitian restaurant in the county, and it is totally true!!!! The pork was tender and crispy. The black beans were fragrant and flavorful. I can't wait to go back and try the entire menu." Of course, several waterfront eateries offer a spot to kick back at sunset, while savoring fresh seafood, before an evening stroll along the boardwalk.
