While Nebraska is known for its sweeping prairies and wide-open landscapes, the state is also home to visit-worthy cities. But if you're after a cozy, low-key, authentic Midwest experience that hotspots like Omaha can't exactly provide, there's a place not far from there that offers a balance of green spaces and small-town attractions (while keeping you within reach of the big city). La Vista is a community of just over 16,000 people at the time of writing. Anyone who visits La Vista can expect to find an impressive park system and a variety of family-friendly activities.

La Vista offers a range of city attractions — most notably an inviting food scene. Here, visitors can choose between a highly reviewed selection of eateries, including Thai and Vietnamese restaurants and inviting cafes. If you're looking for an all-encompassing family-friendly experience that includes everything from arcade games and duckpin bowling to trivia events — not to mention one of the most highly reviewed restaurants in the city — Smash Park is the place for you. If you have extra time to spare during your family getaway, you can drive 20 minutes to Gretna, an underrated Nebraska city with park beauty and fun shops.

Omaha might be Nebraska's largest city and a Midwestern mecca for indie eats, quirky art, and riverside trails, but La Vista offers visitors its own set of city attractions.
