Sandwiched Between Dallas And Fort Worth Is A Charming City With Scenic Parks, Shopping, And Golf Greens

It doesn't get more yin and yang than Dallas and Fort Worth. The blend of Big D's shiny skyscrapers and Cowtown's rough-and-tumble cowboy charm makes them both standout destinations for any true North Texas experience. But Euless, sandwiched in between the two in the heart of the Mid-Cities region, makes an even better jumping-off point for exploring the bustling metroplex. The Tarrant County suburb is perfectly positioned right next door to the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and only stands about a 20-minute drive away from the downtown districts of both big cities.

Beyond the neighboring attractions, there's plenty to do within city limits, too. Enjoy a leisurely stroll through one of the open-air shopping plazas around town, such as the Shops at Vineyard Village off State Highway 121. The place has dozens of retail stores, along with quick-service eateries like Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers and Schlotzsky's. Glade Parks is also among the most popular shopping centers in Euless. Despite being massive, the walkable landscaped plaza still has a homey small-town feel. "The atmosphere is incredibly welcoming and vibrant, making every shopping trip an enjoyable experience," shared one shopper. "The friendly staff adds to the charm, always ready to assist with a smile."

The center has big-box retailers like Target and comfort food staples like Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar. There's also an on-site hotel, Aloft by Marriott, and several entertainment spots, including a Cinépolis movie theater and, if you have little ones in tow, the indoor playground Kids Empire. Of course, you can also head outdoors. Euless is home to hundreds of acres of parkland and one of the region's premier public golf courses. You definitely don't have to venture very far to have some fun around this community.

From Glade Parks, you can access an interconnected network of green spaces, including the Preserve at McCormick Park. The nearly 30-acre nature area has all the usual park perks: a hiking and biking path, a playground, and picnic areas. You'll also find a tree grove with historic trees, including an Alamo Red Oak, grown from a cutting taken from the grounds of the old Spanish mission in San Antonio (one of the best attractions in Texas). There are a couple of scenic ponds at the preserve, too, along with a wooden boardwalk that stretches out over the surrounding wetlands.

Walk over to the Villages of Bear Creek Park next door for some more water vistas. Picnic tables, grills, playgrounds, water fountains, an off-leash dog park, and even an outdoor amphitheater dot the grounds of this 40-acre recreation area, which is the top-rated thing to do in town on Tripadvisor. The park also has a shaded nature trail that weaves through the trees along Little Bear Creek, with informational signs along the way so you can learn more about all the cool flora you see as you go. "Nice and shady, paved in some areas," wrote one hiker, praising the "beautiful little creek views."

Heritage Park in the heart of town is full of historic charm. Several old structures stand on the 4-acre property, including a wooden barn, a quaint brick home, and a rustic log house. The restored cabin was originally built in the 1850s, making it one of the oldest remaining buildings in Euless. Step back in time with a tour of the grounds, available at no charge on the second Saturday of each month from 1 to 5 p.m., at the time of writing.

Bring the golf gear you need to tackle the course because there are plenty of greens to hit around Euless. Texas Star Golf Course is a nationally acclaimed municipal patch of greens that's received top marks from Golf Digest and Golfweek, among other publications. The 18-hole, par-71 championship course has a Texas Hill Country aesthetic. The place sits on 275 acres of woodlands, featuring a winding creek with scenic rises and drops to really test your aim. "The course is well-kept, with smooth greens, challenging holes, and plenty of space to enjoy your game without feeling crowded," wrote one golfer. After a round on the links, tuck into some hearty Southern eats at Raven's Grille in the clubhouse, which has a cozy ranch house vibe — complete with vaulted ceilings and a whole lot of Southwest flair. 

The Westdale Hills Golf Course is just a couple of miles away from Texas Star. Open on a first-come, first-served basis, the 9-hole, par-3 course is a bit more of a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere. Although more compact, the links are still stunning, with tree-studded rolling slopes centered around a scenic lake. Bear Creek Golf Club, near the airport, also has rave reviews. This place has not one, but two championship 18-hole, par-72 courses to play. There's even an outdoor dining area dubbed The Backyard that serves food from a converted retro Airstream trailer. In addition to the rustic eating space, a previous visitor praised the "woodsy nature of the courses," noting that "the staff is very warm and welcoming." If you're looking for some other places to tee up in the state, Lockhart State Park, between Austin and San Antonio, has golfing and hiking, along with more outdoor fun.
