Forget Nassau — This Tropical Bahamas Beachy Oasis Will Be One Of The Trendiest Destinations For 2027
If you've been dreaming of a tropical vacation in The Bahamas, you're not alone — over 12 million tourists hit the islands in 2025. But with around 30 populated Bahaman islands within an easy flight from the U.S., you may have a hard time choosing. Well, how about one that's not as crowded but happens to be trending? Travel search engine Skyscanner put together its 10 trending destinations for 2027 by looking at how searches for destinations have changed year over year. The top three spots are beachy destinations, with Bimini in The Bahamas coming in at No. 2.
Skyscanner revealed that searches for Bimini are up 150% over last year — yet, it's still an under the radar island in this dreamy archipelago nation. Many visitors to The Bahamas arrive in Nassau, the country's capital and largest city: The cruise port in Nassau alone had 6.1 million visitors in 2025, compared to Bimini's 1.46 million. While there is certainly plenty to do in Nassau, there's a reason people are searching Bimini. They're likely drawn to this place because they're looking for a laidback destination, far quieter than bustling Nassau, with white sand beaches, turquoise water, great scuba diving, and world renowned sportfishing.
Bimini is known as "The Gateway to The Bahamas" since it's the westernmost island chain in the country and only 50 miles east of Miami. Bimini is actually made up of two main islands — North and South Bimini. The main airport for commercial flights is on South Bimini, and it was only in February, 2026 that it received its first non-stop flight from the U.S. on American Airlines, likely contributing to its trending status. North Bimini has the bulk of the attractions and activities, but there are frequent ferries between the two islands.
The best and most beautiful beaches in Bimini
When it comes to the best beaches in Bimini, head to the west coast of North Bimini, to Alice Town. Here you'll find Radio Beach, often cited as Bimini's most beautiful, and consequently its busiest. The 1.5-mile crescent shaped beach is both lively and picturesque, and you can enjoy it while sipping fresh coconut water from local vendors selling whole coconuts. A popular spot for swimming and snorkeling through reefs in calm waters, Radio Beach offers beach chair and umbrella rentals, independent jet ski rentals, plus food vendors and restaurants right on the sand as well as over the water. Conch is a popular dish here, and Big Mike's Fresh Conch Salad is a standout with 4.9 stars on Google.
For something a bit quieter, you can walk along the sand up to Spook Hill Beach. Named for the nearby cemetery, it's an easy place to swim and snorkel, and like all of the beaches along this side of the island, it makes for a fantastic place to watch the sunset. If you're going to be spending time in South Bimini, Tiki Hut Beach is 2 miles long. This beach is often quieter and less crowded than the beaches on North Bimini.
Bimini also has a number of secluded cays (pronounced "keys") south of the main islands. It takes a bit more work to get to them; you'll need to rent a boat or book a tour guide, but they're worth the effort for their beauty and tranquility. One popular option is Honeymoon Harbour Beach on Gun Cay (pictured), just a 30-minute boat ride from South Bimini. It's a tucked away cove, and at lower tides, you'll find a dry stretch of soft white sand to walk along. The beach is part of a sand bar, and you'll likely see stingrays swimming around you; people have been feeding them here for years — just remember to walk with care.
Scuba, sportfishing, and getting to Bimini from the U.S.
If you want to do more than just relax on the beach, Bimini is one of the best places in the world to swim with dolphins in the wild. Bimini is also known for its hammerhead shark population during their migrating season from around November through April. If you're a scuba diver, you can check out some ship wrecks in Bimini, like the Bimini Barge that sunk in 1980. Another popular dive site is the Road to Atlantis. It's a J-shaped series of rectangular limestone rocks, which some say are man-made, and evidence that the legend of the lost city of Atlantis is true.
Bimini is also big on sportfishing, and one-time resident Ernest Hemingway was an avid fisherman here. Martin Luther King Jr. fished during visits to Bimini as well. If you want to follow in their footsteps, take a guided fishing charter. Depending on the season, you can catch tuna, wahoo, marlin, swordfish, and more.
If you're one of the people looking to visit Bimini in 2027, there are a few different ways to get there from the U.S. Three times a week, you can get take a direct flight to South Bimini's small airport from Miami International Airport with American Airlines, and the flight takes less than an hour. Otherwise, you'll likely have a layover at Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau. A couple of smaller commuter and charter airlines, like Tropic Ocean Airways and Aztec Airways, also have some direct flights to Bimini out of Fort Lauderdale. Tropic Ocean Airways actually flies directly into North Bimini. There's also a ferry from Fort Lauderdale direct to Bimini, which takes around 2 hours. A number of cruise ships make stops in Bimini, including Carnival, Virgin Voyages, and MSC Cruises, which are also some of the best cruise lines for young adults.
