This Nostalgic American Theme Park Took Home The Most Gold In 2026, Including Most Beautiful Park

Forget Disney, Universal Studios, and Six Flags — the world's most celebrated amusement park in 2026 is Dollywood, the twangy, nostalgia-fueled theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, presided over by the late Dolly Parton, who was an investor as well as its figurehead. Dollywood has taken home four Golden Ticket Awards (the amusement park industry's version of the Oscars) in 2026, including "Most Beautiful Park" for its whimsical, cottage-core decorations. Other top honors Dollywood picked up include "Best Guest Experience," "Best Kids' Area," and "Best Family Coaster." The park won more trophies than any other this year, but fell short in the ranking of "Best Amusement Park," coming in second to perennial favorite, Europa-Park in Germany.

The awards, doled out by industry publication Amusement Today, are voted on by 500 industry professionals, journalists, and veteran travelers, so this is more than a fan-fueled popularity contest. But fans are enamored as well. "We've done Disney, we've done Universal, and Dollywood holds its own with both of them in ways that surprised us," writes one tourist from North Carolina on Tripadvisor. "The scale is different but the experience is just as memorable and in some ways more personal."

Dollywood has a rich, deep history. The park was founded in 1961 as Rebel Railroad and underwent several changes of name and ownership on its way to becoming Dollywood in 1986, when Parton came on board as a partner. The park is imbued with the warm personality of the late country music icon, who grew up in the humble town of Sevierville, right next door to Pigeon Forge. One of the park's most sentimental, crowd-pleasing attractions is a replica of the singer's mountain home. The simple log cabin is where the singer's mother sewed the iconic "Coat of Many Colors," later immortalized in song.

Nestled in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains (Dolly Parton's favorite place in the world), Dollywood has gone to great lengths to capture the beauty of rural Tennessee. Bountiful floral mosaics, deemed "mosaicultures," burst with over a million blooms in spring, ready for the park's flower and food festival. An artistic display of hundreds of colorful umbrellas form the park's Instagram-famous Umbrella Sky, a kaleidoscopic shade canopy hovering over Showstreet at Dollywood's main entrance, lined with mouth-watering Southern eateries, entertainment venues, and souvenir shops like the Dollyowood Emporium. 

In summer, a flurry of colorful kites replace the umbrellas, and the fall Harvest Festival is equally stunning, with massive displays of pumpkins and trees aflame with vibrant fall colors. The winter holiday festival, Dollywood's Smoky Mountain Christmas, is so spectacular it handily won the Golden Ticket Award for "Best Christmas Event" for 15 consecutive years until the category was retired, awarding Dollywood permanent "legend" status.

Dollywood has also won the "Best Guest Experience" award for all seven years of the its existence, including 2026. Factors going into the decision include friendliness, cleanliness, and value, as well as smooth operations, such as wait times for rides. But the real reason Dollywood is such a standout experience is more emotional than practical. Shortly after the country music legend's passing in 2026 at the age of 80, the New York Times praised Parton's Dollywood for "uniting people through music, community, a good time — sometimes raucous, often corny, always genuine — and a faithful devotion to the region, the people and the culture that raised her."

Dollywood's Wildwood Grove won the Golden Ticket Award for "Best Kids' Area" for the seventh consecutive year. "Wildwood Grove is the most aesthetically pleasing thing I have ever seen," marvels one Redditor. Roller Coaster review site Captain Coaster praises Big Bear Mountain for its "buttery‑smooth ride, impressively long layout, and punchy triple launches." Fans of roller coasters flock to Dollywood, where rides range from gentle, family-friendly rides to bone-rattling thrills for the truly adventurous. Theme park podcaster Dan Heaton of The Tomorrow Society heaps praise on Big Bear Mountain, writing, "It sets the standard for what a family coaster can be." In Heaton's personal ranking, it came behind Thunderhead and Lightning Rod, two wooden coasters with far spicier rides that may appeal more to hardcore coaster fanatics.
